Port Townsend’s monthly art walk this Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — Serbian artist Jel Ena, actress Marcia Perlstein and baby-otter photographer Nancy Cherry Eifert are among the creative people in the spotlight here this Saturday.

As on every first Saturday of the month, a self-guided Gallery Walk spreads across the downtown from 5:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m., with free admission and refreshments at many venues. Participants include:

— Gallery 9, the artists’ cooperative at 1012 Water St., is highlighting Nancy Cherry Eifert, the wildlife photographer recently noted for her images of Sekiu the surprise otter pup at the Seattle Aquarium. This month Eifert is showing springtime images from around the Olympic Peninsula, with giclee prints and note cards available. Also featured is woodworker Robin McKann, whose creations include garden benches made of local wood.

– The Red Raven Gallery, 922 Water St., features the Serbian-born multimedia artist Jel Ena, plus poet Scott Reeves, both of whom are coming from Los Angeles to be part of the gallery walk. For more details, vist www.RedRaven.blogspot.com or phone 360-385-1493.

– The Northwind Arts Center, 2409 Jefferson St., presents “Piece Work,” a juried exhibition of collages. Details can be found at www.NorthwindArts.org.

– “Celebrate the Courageous” is the theme of this month’s PT Shorts, a staged literary reading at the Pope Marine Building at Water and Madison streets. Admission is free to the 7:30 p.m. performance, which includes music, memoir and fiction from writers Fred Small, Barbara Deming and Mairead Corrigan. Each story is about courage, and each will come to life courtesy of local performers including Marcia Perlstein, Iris Bracey, Judith-Kate Friedman and Cheron Dudley.

– “The Artful Jewelers” is a group show unfolding at the Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St. Providing abundant bling are chainmaker Shirley Moss, silverworker Jo Beachy, beader Andrea Guarino-Siemmons, metalsmith Haden Starbuck and bone carver Victor Judd. Then there’s Mary Lynn Maloney’s jewelry made with postage stamps and coins, Kristen Wade’s dichroic fused glass and Lynn Anju’s pieces made with rose cut tourmaline.
