PORT ANGELES — Cherie Trebon intends to whisk you somewhere far off and far out.
She’s a flight engineer of sorts, one who takes her listeners on free rides to other places, times and states of being. And her next port of call is the Story People’s Story Swap, a monthly event at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
“For those who have never been to a storytelling event,” Trebon said, “I would invite them, especially at this busy time of the year, to give themselves the gift of an evening of just sitting back, listening to and enjoying stories from many cultures that are guaranteed to be both thought-provoking and laugh producing.”
Trebon’s stories gather around the theme of “Fools, Fools, Wonderful Fools,” beginning at 7 p.m. Monday. Admission is free for all ages, as always with story swaps.
These stories, Trebon noted, come from across three continents, and from research she has done to understand the eternal importance of the fool in life and literature.
Lifelong passion
Trebon is a lifelong storyteller who has been practicing her art professionally for 23 years at events such as Seattle’s Northwest Folklife Festival; the Duncan, B.C., Mid-Winter Festival and Port Angeles’ Forest Storytelling Festival held each October.
After Trebon’s tales, everyone is invited to stay for a refreshment break; then the second half of the evening will be given over to an open mic section for more storytellers. The evening will wrap up around 9 p.m.
