Plant disease topic of Port Angeles gardening talk

PORT ANGELES — Veteran Master Gardener Bob Cain will talk about plant disease and insect problems at noon Thursday, May 11.

The presentation will be in the county commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

Free, open to public

The presentation is free and open to the public, though donations to help offset copying costs for handouts are accepted.

Cain will discuss new pests reported by clients at the Clallam County Master Gardeners’ plant clinics of the past few years as well as data from Washington State University and U.S. Drug Administration pest alert networks.

He will explain how to identify new emerging problems, how to monitor crops and ornamental plants, and where to find information about how to stop infestation or disease outbreaks.

Cain is also the 2009 Master Gardener Intern of the Year and 2011 Master Gardener of the Year.

Attendees can bring a lunch.
