PENINSULA SPOTLIGHT: Art sparkles during First Friday in Sequim

SEQUIM — Eggnog, nontraditional wreaths and one icy windshield are all part of the First Friday Art Walk through downtown Sequim tonight.

On this free, self-guided tour between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., you might start on West Cedar Street, one block north of Washington Street.

Tight together are two venues filled with fresh art and hot drinks: Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co., at 157 W. Cedar St., and the Museum & Arts Center at 175 W. Cedar.

Captured moments

At Rainshadow, roaster Don Batcheller has just put up his December show of fine art photography by Jan Kepley.

Among the images: a serene view of Seal Rock on the Oregon coast and a closeup of Jan’s wife Kay’s car’s ice-encrusted windshield one chilly morning.

“It had to be done in a hurry because I needed to go to work,” recalled Kay Kepley, who recently retired from her post at the Sequim Library.

Rainshadow Coffee, to keep the cold at bay, serves about 10 varieties from beans roasted on site.

At the Museum & Arts Center, aka the MAC, the third annual Small Works Show & Sale is under way, so art lovers can pick out compact, easily shipped gifts.

The show features sculpture, photography, pottery and paintings — all under 8 inches by 10 inches in size.

“The MAC will have priority mail boxes available and assist in packing and mailing your purchase,” promised organizer Linda Stadtmiller.

The show and sale will stay up through Dec. 30 at the museum, whose hours are from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
