PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will celebrate student writing at 12:30 p.m. Thursday as Stadium Generale spotlights the winners of the English Essay Awards.
Through gifts from Juliette Teorey and from Gunnar and Frances Fagerlund, students with exceptional writing have the opportunity for their work to be considered for awards.
Faculty who teach English composition, literature and other courses nominate essays for awards. Each student receives a $250 cash award.
Juliette Teorey Awards for Narrative Essay award recipients include Chere’l Buchanan (“Things Are Not Always as They Appear”); Daniel Hilmisson (“Head On”); Amelie Mantchev (“Butter is Thicker Than Water”); Alysa Martinez (“The Drive”); Anna Molotsky (“What I’ve Learned from Anti-Semitism”) and Gwyneth VanBlair (“Discovering my Queer Identity”).
Frances and Gunnar Fagurland Awards for Research Writing award recipients include: Shawna Bebo (“The Business of Beavers”); John Considine (“Human Footprints: Rural Psychogeography”); Mathias Holshouser (“The Collective Unconscious and Lynch”) and Lilly Sanders (“The Fine Line Between Cultural Appropriation and Cultural Appreciation”).
