Patterson, Peninsula Scribes ehxibit work at Blue Whole Gallery in September

Gallery open Wednesdsays through Sundays

SEQUIM — A local lettering arts group and an artist best known for her aviation art are teaming up for the Blue Whole Gallery’s new exhibit in September.

Peninsula Scribes — a guild that promotes calligraphy, lettering arts, book arts and paper craft — join gallery member Priscilla Patterson for a show featured at the gallery at 129 W. Washington St.

The exhibit opens from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday. The gallery is open those same hours, Wednesdays- Sundays.

Facial coverings and social distancing are required in the gallery, which limits visitors to six people at a time.

Started in 1980, Peninsula Scribes members participate in annual events that include a group project, workshops, Clallam County Fair exhibit, a day with a guild from Olympia at Hamma Hamma and a regional calligraphy conference.

Exhibiting members in September are Susan Blenk, Sandee Freeman, Pamela Hunter, Terri Kruger, Linda O’Neil, Genaveve Starr and Rebecca Wild.

An award-winning artist, Priscilla Patterson picked the them of “While we stayed home … ” for the September exhibit. Each piece features an event the artist observed during the months of this year when those who could stayed home due to COVID-19 precautions. Events included “calves were born in the pasture,” “we read books” and “the lavender bloomed.”

Patterson serves as Education Chair for the American Society of Aviation Artists, an organization she’s been a member of since 1994. She’s also a member of the Canadian Aviation Artists Association and the Coast Guard and Air Force Art Programs, and she has a certification in Composite Drawing for Law Enforcement.
