Chamber music and wine talks are among the attractions on the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend.
The summer Olympic Music Festival begins on Saturday, with music by Beethoven.

Wine-growing talk
PORT ANGELES — Angelo and Brenda Spandrio, who have begun a vineyard devoted to producing grapes for sparkling wines, will host a “Champagne reception and vineyard presentation” on Saturday.
The reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. will be at the The event will be given at Vigna di Angelo on Township Line Road, east of Port Angeles.
Anyone interested in wine or having a vineyard on the North Olympic Peninsula is invited to attend.
The topics to be discussed over wine and hors d’oeuvres include vine selection; “teaming with microbes” instead of using pesticides; and what wine grapes grow best in the Peninsula’s climate.
The event is co-sponsored by Clallam County’s Washington State University Extension.

The Spandrios recently planted 2,300 grape vines in their vineyard, with plans to plant up to 10,000.
Best window
FORKS — Voting in a storefront window decoration contest begins on Saturday.
The contest, part of the Forks Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration, will end on July 3.
Ballots can be picked up at businesses in Forks, and must be dropped off in ballot boxes at West End Surf, Sully’s Sully’s Drive-in, or the Forks Chamber of Commerce office.
Food bank benefit
PORT ANGELES — Four heavy-metal bands will perform a benefit show for the Port Angeles Food Bank today.
Dying to Bleed, Jack Havoc, Kill or Be Conquered and S.O.M.A. will perform at the Eagles Annex Building, 110 S. Penn St., beginning at 8 p.m.
Admission is $5 at the door, or $3 with a non-perishable food item.
Lake Crescent hike
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Explorers Volksmarch Club is hosting a 7.4 mile walk along the Spruce Railroad trail on Saturday.
The hike on the trail, which is on the north side of Lake Crescent, is open to the public.
Participants will meet in the parking lot at Albertsons, 114 E. Lauridsen Blvd., at 9 a.m., where carpools will be organized.
The walk will be followed by a pizza lunch at Log Cabin Resort.

Memorial concert
PORT ANGELES — Four bands will perform during the Rock For Nick Memorial Show in the Pirate Union Building at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The all-ages show, in memory of Nicholas “Nick” Stuber, who died at the age of 22 on May 24, will feature The Fixt, 3D Witch Hunt, Y.I.A and Battlebriar.
There will be a $5 cover charge at the door.

Dance, juggling
PORT TOWNSEND — Dance and juggling will be performed at Fort Worden State Park Friday and Saturday.
Students from O’Meara Dance Studio will perform at the McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden State Park at 7 p.m. Friday and at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The theme of the production is “Dance Thru The Decades.”
Dance styles will include ballet, tap, jazz and musical theater.
Nanda, an acrobatic juggling troupe, will be the guest performers.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors.
The Port Townsend dance studio is under the direction of Joan O’Meara and Erin O’Meara Little.
Rat Island Regatta
PORT TOWNSEND — The 15th annual Rat Island Regatta, a seven-mile boat race, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The race, sponsored by Sound Rowers Open Water Rowing & Paddling Club, will begin and end off the beach by the kitchen shelter at Fort Worden State Park.
It is open to all human-powered crafts, including kayaks and surf skis; rowing shells with fixed and sliding seats; canoes, outrigger canoes and dugout and war canoes; pedal boats; and paddle boards.
Competitors will race southeast past Port Hudson, around Rat Island and back to Fort Worden.
A mandatory pre-race meeting for participants will be held at 9:15 a.m.
A potluck will follow the race, with fish provided for the barbecue. Participants are asked to a side dish.
