Olympic National Park announces winter campground schedule

Some will close, while others will remain open year-round.

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — With winter approaching, some park campgrounds will close for the season, while others remain open for year-round camping.

Staircase Campground will close for the season Tuesday.

Weather permitting, the Staircase area will remain open throughout the winter for day use and trailhead access. A vault toilet is provided. Visitors should bring their own drinking water.

Sol Duc Campground, now operated by Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort, will close for the season Sunday, Oct. 30. The resort will also close that day.

Sol Duc Road will remain open as weather and conditions permit. A vault toilet is provided at the trailhead. Visitors should bring their own drinking water.

Deer Park Campground will close in mid-October, depending on snow conditions.

The Heart o’ the Hills, Hoh, Mora and Kalaloch campgrounds will remain open year-round, with drinking water and flush toilets available.

However, the Hoh Campground will close temporarily from Monday, Oct. 31, through Friday, Nov. 4, so crews can complete work to the electrical system. The campground will reopen Saturday, Nov. 5.

Graves Creek, North Fork, Ozette and Queets campgrounds also will remain open through the winter.

All have vault toilets. Potable water is not provided in these campgrounds, so campers should bring their own water or plan on treating their water before drinking.

Fairholme and South Beach campgrounds already have been closed for the season.
