North Olympic Library offering teen activities

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System is offering several opportunities for teens in seventh- through 12th-grade to take part in fun activities and to help shape future events at the library.

Teen Tuesdays

The Port Angeles Main Library will host a new after-school program, Teen Tuesdays, that includes activities and snacks from 3:30 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Activities alternate between Game Club with board and card games, Teen Advisory Board meetings, Book Club, and the Free Association creative writing club.

“Teen Tuesdays incorporates things teens have repeatedly asked for — a book club just for them and space to play tabletop games — and activities I’ve noticed teens gravitating toward,” said Clair Dunlap, youth services librarian. “I hope that Teen Tuesdays gives everyone a safe, free spot after school to explore their interests and make new friends.”

Teen Board Game and Art Night

The Sequim Branch Library will continue Teen Board Game and Art Night from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.

The after-hours event is for teens only and free pizza is served.

Teens can play board games from the library’s collection or bring in their own favorites; art supplies and origami paper are on hand for a creative outlet.

Anime and Manga Club

The Forks Branch Library hosts Anime and Manga Club from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.

The club creates an opportunity to meet with other fans of Japanese animation and graphic novels and to learn about Japanese culture.

Attendees can watch anime, enjoy snacks and discover new manga titles.

Teen Advisory Board

All these programs were developed based on input from the libraries’ teen advisory boards and the branches are seeking new members for this year’s boards.

Members will gain leadership skills and earn volunteer hours while collaborating with library staff and peers to plan teen events and programs.

Sequim Branch Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, conducts its Teen Advisory Board meetings from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.

Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles, conducts its Teen Advisory Board meetings from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.

Applications are now being accepted for the West End Teen Advisory Board; meetings are scheduled to start in January.

Sign up for an advisory board online, at www.nols.org/tab, or by talking with library staff.

Teen programs are supported by local Friends of the Library groups.
