North Olympic Library System to host ‘The History of Cannabis and Its Prohibition’

PORT ANGELES — As part of its Summer Reading Program, the North Olympic Library System will present “The History of Cannabis and its Prohibition” at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Registration for the program is required to receive the Zoom login for the presentation.

Sign up at nols.org/srp or at a NOLS library branch — in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks or Clallam Bay — to join the Summer Reading Challenge.

For every 30 days a participant reads, the person can receive an entry into the grand prize drawing (up to two entries).

Relationship

Dr. David L. Nathan will tell about the history of society’s relationship with cannabis at this presentation.

Primary sources are featured, rather than legends and myths about the plant, NOLS said in a press release.

There will be time for questions following the presentation.

Nathan is a New Jersey-based psychiatrist, consultant, educator and author.

He is a leading advocate for evidence-based changes in drug policy, following principles of public health and social justice.

The founder and board president of Doctors for Cannabis Regulation, Nathan has published numerous articles on the subject for local, national, and international news outlets.

Drawing

Each grand prize drawing winner will be able to select one of the following prizes: a $100 gift card to a local book store or restaurant, or a LEGO set (up to $100 in value).

Those who read for 30 days will earn a color-by-number Summer Reading Challenge T-shirt and have the opportunity to express their creativity by filling it in themselves.

Reading will be tracked through Aug. 20.

Summer Reading Program grand prizes, T-shirts, books and events are supported by Friends of the Library groups at all four NOLS branches.
