New pastor takes pulpit this Sunday

The First Presbyterian Church of Port Angeles has called a new pastor.

It is the Rev. Dr. Matt Paul, 52, who most recently pastored in Iowa City, Iowa.

He and his wife Becca have been ministering for the past 22 years around the Northwest and “ardently seek to pastor a Christ-centered church that is spiritually growing, nurturing discipleship and excelling in service and mission.”

The Pauls have three children. The youngest, Arie, is now a junior at Port Angeles High School.

Paul is a graduate of the University of Oregon and has roots in the Northwest.

He earned his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. and his Doctor of Ministry from Austin Theological Seminary in Texas.

He will start his ministry at First Presbyterian on Sunday, with services at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Paul follows Pastor Wendy Taylor, interim for the past two years, and Pastor Ted Mattie, who retired after 37 years at the church at 139 W. Eigth Street.
