Neal is featured speaker at genealogical society meeting

SEQUIM — The Clallam County Genealogical Society will host fishing guide/newspaper columnist Pat Neal at the group’s next meeting, set for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The free lecture will be at Dungeness Lutheran Church at 925 N. Sequim Ave. The public is welcome.

Neal will present a slide show and lecture titled “The Natural History of the Olympic Peninsula.”

Neal is a fishing guide on the Hoh River on the North Olympic Peninsula’s West End. He began writing his column in 1998 and is now featured on the Peninsula Daily News commentary page.

His presentation’s stories combine his research as a historian with humorous observations of the natural world and the “wild and woolly life” of a guide on the rivers of the rain forest.

Neal’s contribution to identifying and evaluating the importance of historic places and the people who lived the history of the Olympic Peninsula has earned recognition with an award for Special Achievement in Historic Preservation by Gov. Jay Inslee.

Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to register, have a cup of coffee and visit.

For more information, call the society at 360-417-5000 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays or visit www.clallamcogs.org.
