Jason Popelka will perform original and cover songs Tuesday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s Music Live at One.

Music Live at One features original music, old tunes

SEQUIM — St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s next Music Live at One will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The show inside St. Luke’s sanctuary, 525 N. Fifth Ave., will feature Jason Popelka and friends Gary Prosser and Dave Keyte.

It will be followed by dessert in the parish hall.

Tickets are $10 with all proceeds benefiting local, regional and global concerns.

Some of the songs Popelka will play include James Taylor’s “Long Ago and Far Away” and “Try a Little Kindness” by Curt Sapaugh and Bobby Austin along with original compositions including “Our Lady,” which Popelka wrote to preserve the emotional impact of witnessing the Notre Dame Cathedral burning in April.

Popelka grew up in an artistic home and began playing guitar at 11. He studied classical guitar through high school while enjoying gigs with cover bands. After semi-retiring as an architect, he pursued a range of musical styles.

Popelka, who plays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays at Wind Rose Cellars, organized The OrcaStraitors Musician’s Guild to generate funds for the Orca Conservancy. He also performs with Art Moore and the St. Luke’s Wire Choir.

Prosser has played music for fun with local bands since 2002. Keyte continues to play the electronic wind instrument since 2012 and plays with many groups, too.

The next Music Live at One show will be Just in Tyme on Feb. 11, followed by Tom Reis and Cynthia Webster on March 10, Heidi Fivash on April 14 and Anson Ka-Lik Sin on May 12.

Music Live was founded more than 30 years ago at St. Luke’s as a musical outreach to the community. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Thursday at the church office.
