Master Gardener to discuss cultivating culinary herbs

PORT ANGELES — WSU Master Gardener Sally Tysver will share tips for bringing 12 fresh culinary herbs from the garden to the kitchen at the next Green Thumbs event, set for noon Thursday.

The free lecture will be in the county commissioners’ meeting room of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Tysver will discuss indoor seed starting and container gardening. She also will explain how to transplant new seedlings and to sow seeds directly in a home garden when the weather warms up. She will provide tips for growing, harvesting, storing and cooking with these herbs.

Tysver studied the basics of herbalism through the Australasian College of Herbal Studies, Lake Oseugo, Ore., and has been an assistant with care of herbs at the Silverbay Herb Farm in Silverdale while it was a working farm.

She has been a master gardener since 1991 and has given presentations on the medicinal and culinary use of herbs. Tysver manages the culinary herb garden at Clallam County Master Gardeners Woodcock demonstration garden

This presentation is part of the “Green Thumb Garden Tips” education series, sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners on the second and fourth Thursday of every month in Port Angeles. Programs are designed to help home gardeners establish or improve their gardening practices. Speakers are local and regional individuals with expertise and experience in sustainable horticultural practices.
