PORT ANGELES — Your 17th-century castle awaits, as does a five-course feast that starts with wassail and wraps with tarts.
The fifth annual Madrigal Dinners, created and served by the culinary arts students at the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center, will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday inside the castle, which was formerly known as the Port Angeles High School cafeteria, 304 E. Park Ave.
Tickets are $25 for the evening of gourmet cuisine and entertainment by Port Angeles High’s Vocal Unlimited choir.
Reservations are due by 5 p.m. Thursday.
To order tickets, phone 360-565-1535 or 360-565-1964.
With their festive food, music and comedy, these gatherings usher in the holiday season, said Jolene Dalton Gailey, director of Vocal Unlimited.
“You walk through a castle facade, and you’re transported back to the Renaissance period,” she said.
Following the wassail — old-English-style cider — the meal’s courses include bread and cheese, soup, a roasted game hen with root vegetables and, for dessert, pumpkin and apple tarts.
Comedic play
Gailey penned the comedic play that unfolds each evening.
In it, the audience members are guests in the castle, with hosts Queen Arabella and King Danforth of Thermopolis — also known as Port Angeles High School seniors Abby Walder and Forrest Emmett — and they get to watch a jousting tournament, Gailey said.
Court jester and senior Jordan Sanders also adds his own brand of entertainment.
So those who come to Port Angeles’ castle, Gailey promised, will find themselves swept back in time.
“We include the audience in all kinds of things . . . and the food is incredible,” she said.
And these dinners are eaten in period style, of course, utensil-free.
