Quilcene music man Andy Mackie needed 852 harmonica players to set the world’s record for largest harmonica band, and he got 1,706.
The Mackie band played “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for 13 minutes, 22 seconds at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle on Sunday night, said Denny Fleenor, a Washington State University information specialist assisting Mackie and WSU Jefferson County Extension faculty member Robert Force.
If those numbers are certified by a University of Washington professor today, Mackie and the band will have set the Guinness Book of Records mark for world’s largest harmonica band, breaking the old record by more than 851 players in Poland.
The band only needed to play continuously for five minutes to qualify for the record.
