SEQUIM — Writers on the Spit will feature two memoirists, Doreen Petersen and Ingrid Lehrer, at the Fourth Friday Readings tonight.
The free event begins at 6:30 p.m. at The Lodge’s media room, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim.
Petersen and Lehrer are writing biographies filled with episodes to share with the younger generations in their families. Both women came to the U.S. as young single women on their own.
Petersen has been an adventurer since her early days in London. She left school eagerly and soon, being deemed “to be of good character” entered the U.S.
She went to work as a dressmaker and then engineering draftsman (which she swears have lots in common), met the man she married, and in time retired to Sequim.
Lehrer came to the U.S. from Germany in the 1950s; she met her husband in New York and they moved to California to raise their daughters. She retired to Sequim three decades ago.
She loves the outdoors and hiking national parks around the country. She is writing stories about her parents and grandparents as well as her own life.
The event is accessible to everyone; there is an elevator and stairs to the media room on the second floor.
Following the featured speakers, there will be an hour of five-minute open mic readings.
