PORT ANGELES — Veteran folksinger Judy Collins will perform in concert next month in a fundraiser to help two North Olympic Peninsula groups ease suffering and pain in the Third World.
Net proceeds from the concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the Port Angeles High School auditorium, 304 E. Park Ave., will go to help African orphans suffering from AIDS, Rotary International’s PolioPlus campaign to rid the world of polio, and other international service projects.
Collins’ appearance is co-sponsored by Womenfest and the Port Angeles Rotary Club.

Collins has numerous top 10 hits — including “Send in the Clowns,” “Both Sides Now” and “Someday Soon” — plus two Grammy awards and more than 40 gold- and platinum-selling albums, and she has authored three books.
Born in Seattle in 1939, Collins started her own independent label, Wildflower Records, in 1999 with an ongoing goal of remastering and rereleasing her early recordings and making them available for the first time on CD.
Following the 1992 death of her son, Clark Taylor, at age 33 after a long bout with depression and substance abuse, Collins has also become a strong advocate of suicide prevention.
Her 2003 book, Sanity and Grace, chronicles her recovery from her son’s suicide and attempts to provide some comfort and guidance to other families dealing with the loss of a loved one to suicide.
