Kids Create Art series returns to Sequim on Saturday

SEQUIM — The Kids Create Art series at the Sequim Library begins another season this fall with three new artists introducing new media and topics.

The introductory art workshops take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of the month, October through April, at the library at 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Led by local artists, each Kids Create Art session, recommended for ages 7 to 12, offers participants an opportunity to explore various artistic media.

All workshops in the series are free, but with class sizes limited, preregistration is required.

To register, visit the Sequim Library events calendar at www.nols.org, call 360-683-1161 or email youth@nols.org. All materials will be provided.

This Saturday, Sequim artist Tricia Murphy will offer young artists the opportunity to work with chalk pastels exploring elements of line and texture as well as principles of contrast and proportion.

The seasonal multimedia art project will result in a brown paper bag barn owl.

On Nov. 18, Janie Brackney — a certified Zentangle teacher and artist — will introduce the Zentangle method, an easy-to-learn and relaxing way to create images by drawing structured patterns.

On Dec. 16, artist Lauralee DeLuca will introduce fiber arts and offer participants a chance to get super clean, have fun and felt a bar of soap to use or give as a gift. This process will use the ancient technique of wet felting in a modern way.

For more information about the Kids Create Art program series, call 360-683-1161, email youth@nols.org or visit www.nols.org.
