JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Boogie off the post-turkey doldrums

IF YOU’RE READING this in the morning, here’s a warning: Don’t eat too much.

If you’re reading it at night, I feel your plight.

So I’m just going to take a nap and let the calories fall where they may.

Tomorrow night, I’ll start dancing the added calories off.

Port Angeles

■ On Friday at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, the Turner Brothers Band makes the trek to Port Angeles for a night of rollicking rock ’n’ roll from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ On Friday at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, Eggplant, a blues, classic rock, soul, funk and reggae band, performs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Remember, it can be nasty out there, so phone All Points Charters & Tours at 360-775-9128 for a free ride out and back.

On Wednesdays through the NFL football season, find Jason Mogi and Paul Stehr-Green headlining the Deadwood Experiment at 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 Railroad Ave., singer/guitarist Julia Maguire entertains at 7:30 p.m. $3 cover.

■ Justin Scott Rivet goes solo Mondays at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country play and sing the old songs at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band play old-time music with musical guest Mike Baer and the Eden Valley Strummers from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ You can rock away some of those Thanksgiving calories with a post-Thanksgiving party with the SuperTrees on Sunday at Next Door Gastropub, 113 W. First St. Catch them and start dancing at 5 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ At Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues today and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., kick up your heels with the Old Sidekicks playing classic country, pop and rock at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Buck Ellard Band will keep the country flowing at 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, enjoy the boomer music of Final Approach at 5:30 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesday at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Kelly and Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, enjoy the rhythm-and-blues and Motown sound of R and B (Rachael and Barry) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday in Club Seven Lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, Author Unknown returns for a great night of rock ’n’ roll and blues from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, don your chaps to ride the mechanical bull to the music of Haywire from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Country Rock Association from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, dress up for the down beat of the Stardust Big Band playing pop hits of the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday at the Upstage, 923 Washington St., it’s a great night of jazz, with Mia Nicholson and Steve Christofferson kicking things off at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Miles Okazaki trio. $15 cover.

On Saturday, David Jacobs-Strain and the Crunk Mountain Boys perform. Is it Delta blues? Geekabilly? You decide. The slide guitar and storytelling of Jacobs-Strain will have you in awe at 8 p.m. $10 adults; $5 youths.

On Sunday, two jazz icons, Greta Matassa and Barney McClure, host a showcase at 7:30 p.m. $15 cover.

On Wednesday, Beau Borrero, a mother-son duo from Friday Harbor, play acoustic folk-funk at 7:30 p.m. Voluntary donation.

■ On Saturday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., enjoy the harmonies, powerful rhythms and virtuosic guitar and mandolin picking of Spoonshine at 10 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at the Undertown, Tyler and Water streets, The Twins, Meg and Julie, entertain during happy hour beginning at 5 p.m., followed by Lost in the Shuffle playing classic blues and dance music at 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub and Grill, 1016 Lawrence St., Chris Gunn, lead singer for the Low Ones, plays a rare solo show from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, on Thursdays and Fridays from noon till 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday in the Red Lion Hotel/Port Angeles CrabHouse ballroom, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles, Witherow — Standing on Shoulders has a CD-release party from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. $8 prepaid; $10 at the door.

Admission gets you a full-length CD, duo performance, full musician band, appetizers and more.

■ On Saturday at the Port Townsend Quimper Grange, 1210 Corona St., the New Iberians play Cajun and zydeco music from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

All ages welcome. $12 cover for adults.

■ On Saturday, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers play live music at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, Chimacum, with an all-players jam from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a performance from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Free and open to the public. Donations support scholarships.
