JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: After turkey time, give thanks for live music

IT’S TURKEY TIME, and when you sit back in your recliner after the meal and before you nod off, pause and give thanks for the many blessings, including those of music — be it performing, singing, listening or otherwise enjoying — that we enjoy.

Port Angeles

■ On Saturday, the country rock of the Jimmy Hoffman Band fills Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Jimmy reaches way back and pulls out classics from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s as well as the more contemporary country of the ’80s and ’90s.

■ On Saturday at the Junction Roadhouse, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112 five miles west of Port Angeles, dynamic roots rock and folk duo RavenWolf lets loose from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Local musician Ches Ferguson will open and then play a tune or two. $5 cover.

On Sunday, Craig Dills hosts the Blues Jam from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Tuesday, Ches Ferguson stops by for some picking and grinning at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, Jason Mogi and Paul Stehr-Green are joined by Kim Trenn­ery for an eclectic mix of music gleaned from Deadwood Revival, SuperTrees, Tongue and Groove, Grateful Dead tunes and more at 7:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Wine on the Waterfront at The Landing mall at 115 Railroad Ave., ease back after the mobs of Black Friday and enjoy the homespun music of Abby Mae & the Homeschool Boys at 8 p.m. No cover.

On Saturday, Julia Maguire returns with her blend of modern and classic folk, rock and pop for another delightful evening of song at 8:30 p.m. $3 cover.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country perform at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Christina Gross invites you to come and jam with other musicians from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Amateurs welcome.

On Tuesday, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band play old-time music with guest Denny Secord Jr. for an old-fashioned, good ol’ time from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally and the Boys playing ballroom dance favorites for the dancing pleasure of all adults 45 years and older from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover, first-timers free.

■ On Wednesday at Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues with a brew and barbecue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Old Sidekicks perform at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Turner Brothers Band at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, the Turner Brothers Band returns for another evening of rock starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Three Crabs Restaurant, 11 3 Crabs Road, Cort Armstrong and Blue Rooster perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ At The Buzz, 128 N. Sequim Ave., Kelly Thomas and Victor Reventlow host the very popular and rousing open mic Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, will be It’s All About Me from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Club Seven Lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, Rachael and Barry perform classic rock and Motown from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, get your country up for the Country Rock Association and the Coyote Ugly Party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The mechanical bull will be there, too.

On Sunday, swing and sway to the Stardust Big Band from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Monday, join Barry Burnett and world-class drummer Tom Svornich for We Be Jammin’, so bring your ax or tickled tonsils and join the fun from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., Jim Nyby and the F Street Band play blues, roots and rock at 8 p.m. $6 cover.

On Saturday, Sisters from Another Planet play blues, gospel, folk and jazz at 8 p.m. $10 cover.

May not be live music, but it’s for live music, so Wednesday, come to a comedy fundraiser for Upstage live entertainment at 8 p.m. $10.

■ At Sirens, 823 Water St., Cort Armstrong and Blue Rooster play American roots music Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

■ On Saturday at Castle Key, Seventh and Sheridan streets, Northwest jazz singer Katy Bourne performs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. $10 cover.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., today and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, on Thursdays and Fridays from noon till 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday, Washington Old Time Fiddlers play live music at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, Chimacum. There’s an all-players jam from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a performance from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The entertainment is free and open to the public. Donations support scholarships. ■ Seattle’s Swamp Soul will perform at a Cajun, creole and zydeco dance at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St. in Port Townsend, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. $12 cover.

A pre-dance workshop will be held from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ Thank you, Old Sidekicks, Chantilly Lace, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band, Jerry’s Country Jam and Willie Nelson for coming down to Castaways last Friday to help me celebrate my 70th. A good time was had by all.
