PORT ANGELES — Thom Catts. SuperTrees. Edwardian bicycle suits. The May Second Weekend art activities cover the gamut.
This is downtown Port Angeles’ party for lovers of art and music, with events at restaurants, shops and galleries tonight, Saturday and Sunday. Here’s a sampling of the activities starting today.
■ Tonight, Second Friday Art Rock, 2FAR for short, fills Bar N9ne with live music and on-site creations by local artist Thom Catts.
He’ll get started on his pop culture-infused stencil art at 8 p.m. while SuperTrees, the funk-soul-reggae-rock foursome, supplies the soundtrack. The cover charge is $3 at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St.
■ Photographer Rick Klawitter, whose subjects range from the aurora borealis to the Olympic marmot, has unveiled a new show at Karon’s Frame Center, 625 E. Front St. Lovers of natural beauty are invited to the reception today from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m.
■ “Conspicuous Consumption: A Passion for Fashion” is the fourth annual costume exhibition at Studio Bob, upstairs at 1181/2 E. Front St.
The display features finery for ladies and gentlemen in the styles of 15th-century Burgundy and 16th-century Florence, as well as a 19th-century “lounging dress,” a proper bicycle suit from the Edwardian era, a lavish ball gown made by Belva Bodey of Black Diamond Bridal and a “court coat” that would fit in well at the palace of King George II.
Admission is free to the show’s opening reception from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. Saturday, while wines from Olympic Cellars and appetizers by Smuggler’s Landing will be served. After that the Studio Bob show will be open from noon till 3 p.m. Sunday and from 2 p.m. till 5:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. Saturdays through the rest of May.
■ The Art Up Front gallery, also upstairs at 1181/2 E. Front St., showcases the ceramic art of Cindy Elstrom, with an opening reception from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. Saturday; the view over downtown is included at no charge.
■ “The Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom of Jeff Tocher” lines the walls of the Landing Art Gallery with Tocher tableaux this month, while the venue is celebrating its third year in existence with a party Saturday night. Painter Tocher and other Landing Art Gallery members will be on hand; refreshments from Smuggler’s Landing and live music by Howly Slim will flow from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m.
■ “Jazzy Judy” Clark sings songs from across the musical spectrum at Elliott’s Antique Emporium, that new shop at 135 E. First St., Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
