Historical society to sell fixtures, books

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Historical Society/North Olympic History Center is selling fixtures it no longer needs as well as some vintage books Saturday.

The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the old Lincoln School at the corner of Eighth and C Streets in Port Angeles. Entry and parking will be off of C Street at West Ninth Street only.

The history center had acquired a large number of tables, shelving and bookcases during its 24 years of hosting huge garage sales. The last sale was in August 2018.

Because they aren’t needed for the sale, the tables and bookcases “are just taking up space,” said Kathy Estes, executive director.

The sale will also feature a number of vintage items, including local memorabilia.

Among those items are the extensive collection of books owned by the late Del Price, who died Sept. 7, 2009, at the age of 79.

Price was the advertising manager for the Port Angeles Evening News in the late 1950s and, in 1961, he started a weekly paper, The Shopping News, which became the Clallam County Chronicle & Shopping News. The final edition was issued June 24, 1992, after 32 years of publication.

He was a voracious reader and had a large library. His daughter donated the books to the historical society, Estes said, specially for them to be sold.
