Help home become landscape-friendly with Port Angeles lecture

PORT ANGELES — WSU Clallam County Master Gardener Mike Barnes will discuss ways to make a home landscape-friendly for wildlife by growing native plants when he speaks at noon Thursday.

The free hourlong presentation will be in the county commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Barnes will focus on native landscaping for beauty, low-maintenance care and creating a natural habitat for birds and pollinators.

Barnes will describe characteristics and growing environment for 30 Olympic Peninsula native species. He also will offer tips for propagating native plants and will share both success stories and challenges in his propagating experiences.

Barnes has owned several small businesses including greenhouses, a lavender farm and retail and wholesale nurseries.

The presentation is part of the “Green Thumb Garden Tips” education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
