Healthy bones workshop scheduled

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare and the Madrona MindBody Institute will sponsor another Healthy Bones workshop from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

This year’s workshop is at the institute’s Fort Worden office, 310 Fort Worden Way, for up to 20 attendees and will also stream on Zoom.

Mary Breckel, a physical therapist at Jefferson Healthcare, and Rene Klein, a yoga therapist with Madrona, will present the workshop.

The workshop is designed to help seniors develop a stronger structural frame to help prevent falls.

Topics will include how and when bones start to change, healthy body mechanics, proper postural alignment, the best types of exercise for developing stronger bones and the role of diet and nutrition in preventing osteopenia and osteoporosis.

The workshop costs $20 and includes handouts, access to the zoom presentation, a Q&A session and movement practice.

In-person attendees must present proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
