First Friday goes purple on July 1

SEQUIM — Purple abounds in Sequim this July and the First Friday Art Walk Sequim is no exception.

The free self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim continues 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight and keeps going the first Friday of each month. Visit SequimArtWalk.com for a map and links.

This month, the color theme is purple, the color of Sequim’s famous lavender blooms.

“The color purple represents mesmerizing potential, magical camaraderie, thoughtfulness, cultivated dignity, supportive spiritual significance and impressive extravagance,” said First Friday organizer Renne Emiko Brock.

“Those sweet lavender flowers come in purple, violet, mauve, orchid, lilac, indigo, amethyst, plum, pink and even white. You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in tints and shades of purple as fellow Sequimmers prepare for Sequim Lavender Season.”

Among the attractions today will be the Blue Whole Gallery’s show “Finding Magic in Nature.”

The cooperative artist gallery at 129 W. Washington St. is featuring stained glass artist June Echternkamp and abstract photographer Katherine Loveland.

Both will be present today, starting at 5 p.m.

The gallery’s usual hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The gallery adheres to the Clallam County Public Health guidelines.
