FORKS — William Dietrich, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of “The Final Forest: Big Trees, Forks, and the Pacific Northwest,” will hold a special book reading, discussion and book signing on Wednesday.
The event, which is free, will be at the University of Washington Olympic Natural Resources Center, 1455 S. Forks Ave., beginning at 5 p.m.
“The Final Forest,” published in 1992 and updated in 2010, explores the complex human relationship with the forests in and around Forks with a journalistic perspective of the political and environmental battle over the northern spotted owl and old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest.
Dietrich, a former science writer for The Seattle Times, won a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. He also wrote several other bestselling books, including fiction novels “The Barbary Pirates” and “Ice Reich.”

5 p.m: — Meet the author reception.
6:30 p.m. — Book reading and discussion.
Copies of “The Final Forest” will be available for purchase from the author at the event. Forks’ Chinook Pharmacy & Variety, 11 S. Forks Avenue, also has books in stock.
Wednesday’s event is sponsored by the Rosmond Forestry Education Fund, an educational series in forestry topics at the University of Washington.
