Events planned on North Olympic Peninsula this weekend

Although most are gearing up for the Fourth of July on Monday, other events are scheduled this weekend.

• A Chamber Music Intensive for youth, which was conducted this week at the Concerts in the Barn venue in Quilcene, will be capped by a public concert at 2 p.m. today at the barn at 7360 Center Road.

The 24 music students participating range from eighth to 12th grades, and come from Jefferson and adjoining counties.

This program is sponsored by Concerts in the Barn and developed in collaboration with the YEA Music program, a not-for-profit that supports music education experiences for youth in Jefferson County.

For more information, see concertsinthebarn.org or YEAMusic.org.

• The Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St., will be open for the Port Townsend Gallery Walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Artists will be available to discuss their art. Refreshments will be served.

Usual hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and by appointment.

For more information, phone 360-379-8110 or see www.porttownsendgallery.com.

• Raymond Carver’s life is honored in a podcast launched by Peninsula College with permission from Carver’s widow, Tess Gallagher, the Port Angeles writer and poet who brought Carver to the Olympic Peninsula in 1978. Peninsula College professor Michael Mills is the host of the shows.

Listeners can listen and subscribe on their favorite podcast platforms. Those who don’t listen to podcasts can hear the episodes via the Raymond Carver Podcast website at raymoncrver podcst.pencol.edu.

• The Blooming Artists Exhibit at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., ends Sunday.

It is on display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday.

The artwork by more than 250 students includes pottery, print-making, collage, watercolor and painting, as well as flower pressing.
