‘eTown’s’ Port Angeles episodes to air in November

PORT ANGELES — The national radio show “eTown,” which came to the North Olympic Peninsula last Saturday night to record a concert by the California indie-rock band Cake, will broadcast its Port Angeles episodes on some 300 stations during the weeks of Nov. 20 and 27, promoter Karen Hanan said today.

The listed dates changed from dates announced Monday and publicized in print editions of the Peninsula Daily News.

Hanan, executive director of Arts Northwest, brought “eTown” here as part of the “Celebrate Elwha!” festivities marking the start of the Elwha River dam removals.

The show, which featured Texas Music Hall of Fame artist Eliza Gilkyson and Port Hadlock singer-songwriter Danny Barnes along with Cake, is “like David Letterman . . . with way more music,” cohost Helen Forster said Saturday night.

The “eTown” program taped in front of an exuberant and packed Port Angeles High School auditorium, ran the gamut from Cake’s new songs from its album “Showroom of Compassion” to humor-laced interviews with Gilkyson, Cake lead singer John McCrea and U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, the Belfair Democrat who has long pushed for the $325 million in federal funding for the Elwha River restoration project.

The Port Angeles “eTown” will air on KMTT-FM 103.7, the Tacoma station heard in some areas of the North Olympic Peninsula, at 7 a.m. Nov. 20 and 27. Listeners can also find streaming audio at www.eTown.org.

KONP of Port Angeles, at 1450 AM and 102.1 FM, may also broadcast the shows, station manager Todd Ortloff said last week. He said he’s working on an agreement with “eTown’s” producers to air the “Celebrate Elwha!” episodes but doesn’t anticipate picking up “eTown” on a regular basis.
