PORT ANGELES — Sarah Butterworth, a student at Dry Creek Elementary School, is the sixth winner of the annual Kids Marathon medal design contest.

Butterworth will work with Victoria Jones, the North Olympic Discovery Marathon race director, and the design team at Ashworth Awards, to transform her design into the medal that will be awarded to all finishers in the annual Kids Marathon.

There were 62 designs submitted to the YMCA Youth and Government -Olympic Peninsula Delegation.

In addition to Butterworth, the delegation selected four runners-up, Regan Doane, Maddie Walton, Violet Devoney and Wyatt Davis, in the contest.

All five winners will receive entry into the Kids Marathon, a certificate and a goody bag.

Entrants in the Kids Marathon run 25 miles on their own in the weeks preceding the event and then run the last 1.2 miles to finish at City Pier at the same finish line used in the full marathon.

The 19th Kids Marathon is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4.
