Delta Rays play tunes for all-ages community dance Sunday

Peninsula Spotlight

PORT ANGELES — Steve Johnson, host of the “Just for Fun” series of dance classes earlier this year, is inviting singles and couples of all ages to a community dance Sunday evening.

This come-as-you-are party stars the Delta Rays, a popular four-piece band from Port Townsend, playing from 6 p.m. till 10 p.m. at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 W. Fourth St.

Admission is $5 for adults and older teens. But since Johnson wants to build the dance community and encourage younger people to participate, those age 15 and younger get in free.

The music will be 100 percent danceable, promised Delta Rays accordion and keyboard player George Radebaugh.

“We’re going to mix it up: zydeco, some R & B, some fiddle tunes, some polka,” he said, “and some Gypsy music.”

The rest of the Delta Rays are Peter Evasick on fiddle and guitar; drummer Pete Bliven and bassist Todd Fischer.

“If you want to dance, come on out,” whether you know partner-dance steps or not, said Radebaugh.

Dancers also are invited to bring soft drinks and snacks to share. For more details about the event and about Johnson’s swing, country two-step and other classes, phone 360-457-5950.
