Debra Winger, Arliss Howard to be celebrity guests at Port Townsend Film Festival next month

PORT TOWNSEND — Debra Winger is coming back to Port Townsend, where the 1982 blockbuster in which she co-starred, “An Officer and a Gentleman,” was filmed.

Winger and her husband, actor Arliss Howard, will be the guest celebrities at the sixth annual Port Townsend Film Festival on Sept. 23-25, festival organizers confirmed Monday.

And their appearance will be extra special for Connie Kinyon of Sequim, whose name was drawn in a contest to attend a special reception with the stars.

Kinyon said Monday that she’s heading to a video store to catch up on Winger’s film appearances.

Kinyon, along with 17 others, correctly identified Winger and Howard in a contest to “Guess the Guest” from a series of weekly clues issued during July.

Her name was pulled in a drawing from among the 17 for the special meeting.

Winger will visit the Key City again after co-starring with actor Richard Gere in “An Officer and a Gentleman,” which was filmed almost entirely in Port Townsend and Fort Worden State Park in 1981.

Winger and Howard are to be honored at the festival, following a Sept. 24 screening of their 2002 independent film, “Big Bad Love.”
