Container gardening topic of Port Townsend lecture Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — Kathy Hawkins and Arlene West will speak about container gardening in the fourth presentation of the Yard &Garden Lecture series Saturday.

The lecture, “Whether Your Container Is Round or Not,” will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St.

This is part of a six-week series sponsored by the Jefferson County Master Gardeners that is held every Saturday morning until Feb. 13.

Tickets for the six-lecture series are $50, while $12 single tickets will be available at the door if space is available.

Hawkins and West will talk about reading color cues and textures provided by key plants. They will demonstrate planting a container with plants that last through the year and adding accent plants for seasonal color splashes.

A slide presentation will show how to be creative with containers and how easy it is to add vegetables during the spring and summer season.

Event planners encourage those interested to arrive early in order to get a seat.

Door prizes available

Attendees have the opportunity to receive a door prize when the lecture ends.

The 2017 Yard &Garden brochure with information about each presentation and a ticket purchase form is available at www.jcmgf.org.
