Concert to benefit Ugandan AIDS orphans

PORT TOWNSEND — The 11th Annual Concert to Benefit Ugandan AIDS Orphans is planned Sunday.

The concert will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., Port Townsend.

The annual concert supports 28 AIDS orphans sponsored by Grace Lutheran Church.

They are totally dependent on the generosity of Port Townsend area residents to support their education.

A $15 — $20 donation, cash or check, is suggested at the door. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. Proof of vaccinations and masks are required.

This year Grace Lutheran Church is joined by First Presbyterian Church in sponsoring this historically sold-out event, organizers said.

Pianist Lisa Lanza will bring together young Port Townsend musicians and some of their equally talented elders to perform for the benefit of Ugandan AIDS orphans, organizers said.

The concert offers a variety of instrumental music which will include:

• Grand Tango for Cello and Piano by Astor Piazzolla performed by Pamela Roberts and Lisa Lanza;

• Fantasy on Themes from the Wizard of Oz for Piano — Four Hands, by William Hirtz performed by Michael Carroll and Lisa Lanza;

• Cello Duet performed by Gwen Franz and Pamela Roberts; A Haydn Piano Trio performed by Kristin Smith, Gwen Franz and Lisa Lanza;

• Jazz Suite by Stephan Jackman performed by Otto Smith on English Concertina.

Student performers include Tusker Behrenfeld, viola; Maria Powell, saxophone; Cora Brinton, violin; Annabelle Moore, violin; Elijah Hill, piano; Akeyla Behrenfeld, cello; and William Heigel, cello.
