COYLE — Concerts in the Woods, an all-ages concert series at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center in Coyle, moves to a Sunday matinee this weekend as it presents singer-songwriter Claudia Nygaard.
The concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the center at 923 Hazel Point Road. Admission is by donation. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.
“This is the time of year when we switch from doing Saturday evening shows to Sunday matinees to make it easier for folks to find Coyle in the daylight,” said Norm Johnson, organizer of the concert series.
“So we start our fall season with Claudia Nygaard, who has been to Coyle once before.
“She is an excellent entertainer with song, storytelling and humor mixed in.”
Nygaard’s music straddles the fence between folk and country, according to her website at www.claudianygaard.com.
“With a voice like amber honey that is impressive for both its power and intimacy, Nygaard delivers songs that are heartfelt, humorous, scrappy and sensual,” the website says.
Nygaard is on tour from Nashville, Tenn., and last weekend was featured at the Folk Alliance Region West (FAR-West) Music Conference in Bellevue, Johnson said.
Her latest CD, “Let the Storm Roll In,” rose to No. 1 on the Cashbox roots/country chart and No. 8 on the folk DJ chart, according to her website.
She has toured in all 50 states and performed in nine foreign countries. She plays guitar and ukulele.
