PORT ANGELES — The Mount Olympus Chapter Back Country Horsemen of Washington and Olympic National Park are sponsoring Share the Trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The free festival — which is for hikers, runners, bicycle riders, horse and mule riders and packers, and llama packers — will be at the Upper Elwha Community Center west of Port Angeles at 90 Old State Road.
Directions
To get there, travel south on Herrick Road, about a mile west of the Elwha bridge on US Highway 101, and follow the signs to the community center.
Share the Trail will include informational booths from Olympic National Park, Department of Natural Resources, Olympic Discovery Trail, Clallam Conservation District, Sound Bikes and Kayaks, and other entities.
Demonstrations
The event also will include hands-on mule packing demonstrations as well as presentations and information on Leave No Trace ethics to practice while hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping.
There will be activities geared toward children of all ages as well, including craft stations, pony and horse rides and Leave No Trace activities and prizes.
Community members are invited to gather maps on the different trail systems in the area, learn about how horses and mules help to keep trails open for multiple user groups, how to safely pass horses, mules and llamas on the trail and much more.
The Mount Olympus Chapter Back Country Horsemen of Washington will serve hot dogs and chili.
