NEAH BAY — The University of Washington Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team will conduct beached bird training from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Ahead of the training, there will be two presentations on Friday evening.
The training and the presentations are both in the Makah Tribal Community Center, 81 Third Ave.
Lulie K. Parrish will present “Seabird Mortality on the North Washington Coast” at 6 p.m. followed, at 7 p.m., by Jon Scordino, who will present “How Much Salmon do Sea Lions Eat Here?”
Parrish is with the University of Washington Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team; Scordino is with Makah Fisheries Management.
No prior experience is needed, but volunteers should be interested in surveying a specific beach at least once a month.
The training will provide volunteers with the skills to collect survey data on beach cast marine bird carcasses.
The data collected will help track patterns of marine bird mortality on North Pacific beaches.
There will be a break for lunch in the middle of each session.
Mask wear, while indoors, is recommended.
