PORT ANGELES — Global Unity Games, a series of local events organized by the Interfaith Community of Clallam County, will kick off Saturday at the Port Angeles Farmers Market.
The first event will be an information station set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the farmers market in The Gateway pavilion at the corner of Front and Lincoln streets.
“Tomorrow Together” is the theme of several events offered by the Interfaith Community to provide opportunities for positive interfaith experiences.
All events are free and donations will be accepted for Syrian refugees. Checks should be payable to the American Refugee Committee, with “Syria” on the message line.
The group has also planned the following events:
• Vigil for Victims of Violence — 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at City Pier. Remembering and honoring those impacted by violence, with music and interfaith prayers; participants are welcome to bring battery-operated candles.
• Day of Service — Time to be determined Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave. Call 360-452-2323 to sign up. The group plans service projects at Serenity House, First Step, the Port Angeles Food Bank and Healthy Families, followed by fellowship meal at the church.
• Listening Circles — 6 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The group will host a discussion on “Global Unity … Tomorrow Together, Where and How Do We Start?”
• Dances of Universal Peace — 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave. The public is invited to take part in singing and dancing the sacred phrases of the world’s religions to raise consciousness and promote peace.
The songs are simple and dances will be taught.
• Interfaith Peace Choir — 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 73 Howe Road. A concert and community singing will be followed by food and fellowship.
• Messy Church — 4:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The church will host an intergenerational worship experience with devotions, a common meal and sometimes-messy activities. Call 360-452-2323 to sign up.
Interfaith Community of Clallam County is a newly formed group that aims to be “a compassionate voice for peace and understanding.” Organizers said the games are part of an international movement to “tap the best in human nature — our innate desire to play, serve, cooperate, learn and connect.”
