Boat parade set to open season in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Yacht Club and the Northwest Maritime Center will celebrate the beginning of the boating season on Saturday.

The highlight of the celebration is the 75th Boat Parade along the downtown waterfront.

The annual parade, led by the U.S. Navy cutter Old Man IV, will get under way after the 12:30 p.m. sailing of the Washington State Ferry.

The public is invited to view the parade from the Maritime Center’s pier, Pope Marine Park or other points along Water Street.

The celebration will begin around noon with sea shanties on the commons outside the Maritime Center, 431 Water St.

It will finish with a traditional blessing of the fleet by the Rev. Paul Heins of the First Presbyterian Church.
