SEQUIM — The Olympic Theatre Arts Spotlight series is bringing Craicmore, a band specializing in modern and traditional Celtic music, to the Sequim High School Performing Arts Center this Thursday, Oct. 11.
To fill the auditorium with the music of Scotland and Ireland, Craicmore will bring its lead singer: Nancy Johnston, who is known across the world for her smoky contralto. Around her will be the band’s trademark rhythms, from the guitar, bass, bodhran drum, congas, whistles, flutes and bagpipes.
Elements of Craicmore
Craicmore has a reputation for fiery performances that showcase hardshoe dancing, four-part harmonies and a couple of unexpected elements: the Indian shruti box and a rumbling Australian didjeridoo. The band’s players are acoustic and electric bassist Sean FayeCullen, highland and Ulleann piper Dave Champagne — a classically trained musician from Southern California — and John MacAdams, winner of Arts Northwest’s 2010 Coyote Award for musical excellence.
Craicmore, which has toured the western United States for a good 10 years now, recently went farther afield, to do a 14-concert stand in Shanghai, China.
