PORT TOWNSEND — About 60 vendors are registered for this weekend’s community garage sale at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
The Garage Sale &Flea Market, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds at 4907 Landes St., includes both vendors from the public and a sale of items donated to the Jefferson County Fair Association.
Those who want to get a jump on their shopping can purchase $10 VIP passes Saturday morning at the fairgrounds at 8 a.m.
VIP shoppers get to start their shopping at 8:15 a.m., 45 minutes before everyone else.
Other than the VIP shoppers, the event is free to the community.
The annual event is well-attended, said Sue McIntire, office manager.
The community sale will be Saturday only. The fair association will continue to sell items donated to it at garage sales from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 15 and from 10 a.m. to noon May 6.
The fair association will continue to accept donated items from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. today. Items can be dropped off at the fairgrounds office.
This is the 15th year the fair association has hosted the event. The association’s garage sale is one of two major fundraisers for the group.
The 60 community vendors will take up all the indoor garage space at the fairgrounds.
With those now full, McIntire said, there is plenty of space outside for people hoping to sell items, which are $30 per space.
“I’ll probably hear from those people tomorrow,” said McIntire on Thursday. “Everyone waits until the last minute and then makes decisions based on the weather.”
Last year, the association rented space to more than 50 vendors and made about $2,500 by selling items donated by the community.
It has used proceeds to buy new tables, a freezer and a new stove.
Last year’s $2,500 was used to buy 75 new tables. McIntire said it hasn’t been decided how this year’s proceeds will be used, other than to pay necessary expenses such as water and gas bills.
“This is just to maintain the fairgrounds year-round,” McIntire said.
“It just helps us get through the springtime until fair season,” said Bill McIntire, fair manager.
