Trudel: Opposes the proposed capital levy for the Port Angeles School District

School levy

We all want the best for our children including good schools.

It is not in our children’s best interest to move all the six graders into middle school.

Let them remain another year at the top of their social group to gain confidence and maturity before moving them to the bottom of their social scale.

There is no compelling reason to move six graders to Stevens Middle School requiring 18 new classrooms.

We have been told the sixth graders are being moved secondary to overcrowding.

How can this be when there are three empty classrooms at the elementary schools and Fairview school remains vacant?

Family wage jobs have disappeared from Port Angeles. Many families require both parents to work in order to make ends meet.

Remodeling is at least $100 per square foot less expensive and can target current needs.

Our school district district has a $2,850,000 unassigned reserve that could go a long way toward safety and heating upgrades.

Go to www.roarpa.org/news/pa-school-board to learn more about this levy.

Go to www.stoppaschooltax.com to read how a 175 percent tax will affect you financially.

We want the best for our children.

I ask our school board to come up with an affordable levy that meets the needs of our children.

Vote no on the 52 million dollar levy.
