LETTERS:Supports Hays

We now understand the odds are against us.

As the planet gets warmer it affects more than just our quality of life but the very means to sustain it.

Water, food, shelter and now energy are seen as priorities in the hierarchy of needs.

We rely on our institutions to provide guidance, solutions for the greater good.

That takes leadership, imagination and vision.

Simply marking time supporting the status quo is not an option.

A good example of this is the Clallam County Public Utility District.

We’re behind the curve in responding to what’s coming.

Our need for affordable clean energy will increase.

It is imperative that we move beyond mere compliance with the regulatory environment.

We need leadership capable of adjusting the course we’re on to build resilience, to act independently in our own interests.

Our PUD has failed to engage in that broader endeavor.

Commissioner Will Purser is emblematic of that and instead of embracing the need for change has chosen to emphasize the successes of the past.

He has not been pro-active and more recently, I think that he has chosen to mimic the efforts of his opponent in hopes that no one will notice his true lack of enthusiasm to address the future.

Ken Hays will do just that, he is leaning forward and possesses the imagination and administrative ability to get things done to meet our current and future energy needs.

He will help the PUD transition into a 21st Century agency for the greater good of Clallam County.
