I read the front page article this morning in the Peninsula News (Aug. 7) titled “Trick attempt hurts 3.”
My big questions upon reading this are: Where are the parents? Where are the police? Where are the adults?
I also live on a residential street in Port Angeles which has an abundance of speeding cars and upon occasion feels more like a racetrack than a neighborhood street.
This endangers pedestrians, pets, and other vehicles. I, along with my neighbors, have made several calls to the non-emergency police number and have been given lukewarm response.
The best we can get is one day with a radar machine, which does help on that day, but only then.
It is time to enforce the speed limit signs as they are posted and it is time for adults to do their job in having a conversation with their children about the dangers of driving recklessly.
It is also time for the Port Angeles police traffic patrol to enforce the speed limits to help keep our streets safe.
I recently moved here from a neighborhood where the 25 mph speed limit was strictly enforced.
It only takes a few spendy citations to get drivers to obey the posted speed.
It also makes a community safer, which is the ultimate goal.
