LETTERS: Leans on faith when life is full of challenges

Henry B. Eyring, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said, “When you meet someone, treat them as if they were in serious trouble, and you will be right more than half the time.”

As I get older and meet people from around the world, I think this is wise advice.

We all have trials and struggles.

I remember a time when I thought that we were so lucky and that I could barely think of a trial or struggle we faced.

Today, as I’m writing this, I am at Seattle Children’s Hospital waiting for my 7-year-old son to get out of his third brain surgery this week to treat hydrocephalus, a word with which seven years ago, I was unfamiliar.

Those trials came.

When people read my blog or my Facebook posts and learn about the journey we’ve been on, people often comment and say, “I don’t know how you do it.”

Frankly, I don’t know either.

I can tell you that I’ve done a lot of praying and relying on God.

As these mega-trials come up in life, quickly everything else fades into the background and I focus on what is most important, my family.

I’ve felt that I’m not alone in this journey.

I think God is mindful of us.

So the next time you are irritated with someone driving too slow, or whatever it might be, think about what they might be dealing with.

Life is full of challenges.
