LETTER:Research first

This is in response to the letter “Vote them Out” on August 10.

It is everyone’s job, before they vote, to be informed about all of the candidates.

Just voting out incumbents might be the worst thing you can do.

Go to a forum, or go to all of the candidates’ websites, and find out if they agree or disagree with whatever issue is important to you.

Maybe that incumbent has worked hard to change whatever it is that you’re unhappy about and has not been able to be successful on that issue.

We teach students to do their homework.

Voters have homework too.

This republic depends on everyone paying attention and listening to what candidates have to say on issues.

Don’t just vote someone out because you’re unhappy about something or vote for someone because they belong to a certain party.

You give up your power when you don’t do your research before you fill in that all-important box on your ballot.
