Just finished reading the article in the “Nation” section on Tuesday, Aug. 3.
On one hand, it talks about expanding efforts to help at-risk Afghans, then further down the article indicates that applicants must begin the “adjudication process that may take 12-14 months in a third country, and the U.S. does not intend to support their departures or stays.”
How about that?
These people have risked their lives, and the lives of their families, and we do not intend to support their departure or stays, and the application process will take at least a year or more outside the U.S.
I don’t know if our Secretary of State John Blinken is stupid, naive, or both when he says that the U.S. still thinks that we can work for a peaceful and secure Afghanistan.
These people should be brought to the U.S. and have their applications expedited. Instead, we will again show the world how we treat those people that risk it all to help us, like we did in Vietnam.
I continue to be more and more ashamed of our country.
