LETTER:Deer a problem

We have a large domestic deer population in our town.

Lovely creatures they may be, but not when they eat the garden that you have tended since early spring.

They come anytime, day or night, even with fawns who learn quickly.

Just today I rang a bell at noon to chase off a young buck. Within an hour he was back.

This is so unlike a wild deer; his behavior has been compromised.

They are even a risk to drivers in our swelling traffic.

In Eastern Washington, ranchers maintain the population of wolves to protect their crops.

Could such a program work with deer in cities and towns?

Or the venison could be donated to food banks to help feed those who are disadvantaged?

There needs to be a dialog and an eventual solution to this problem since it won’t be solved by ignoring it.
