LETTER: Winborn best community development director in five decades

Best director

Mary Ellen Winborn has proven to be the best community development director my husband, Jim Mantooth, and I have observed in the nearly five decades we’ve lived in Clallam County.

We like the way she balances the need for development with environmental protection.

As an architect for many years, she knows first-hand how important consistency and predictability are in enabling people to be confident our financial and emotional investments in homes and businesses will be protected.

Her professional background as well as her positive and pleasant approach to working with the public and colleagues has enabled her to make amazing progress in her first term, including: implementing state-mandated programs; hiring a building official to process permits quickly and accurately; establishing a marijuana ordinance to protect rural residential neighborhoods while providing options for retailers and growers; making safety a priority for vacation rentals; keeping farming viable while protecting critical area; adding a hydro-geologist’s expertise in addressing countywide water issues; establishing a growth management steering committee; enforcing codes more effectively.

Let’s make sure Mary Ellen Winborn can continue her good work on behalf of the people of Clallam County by re-electing her Director of Community Development.

Robbie Mantooth,

Port Angeles
