LETTER: Voters should remember Legislature’s vote on Election Day

Two articles on the front page of the Feb. 25 Peninsula Daily News — side by side — demonstrate the low regard in which we are held by our three elected state representatives.

On the left side of the page “Lawmakers OK records statute” by Josh Kelety describes the speed and shortcuts the Legislature took to make sure that the activities of our elected officials, excluding our state House and Senate, are open to the rude gaze of public scrutiny.

The process was as disgusting as the bill itself.

On the right side (no pun intended), in an article “District reps vote for bill” by Leah Leach, our three legislators, Van De Wege, Chapman and Tharinger, go to great lengths to explain why the bill and their exclusion from its provisions is a good thing.

Some of the rationalizations are mind-boggling.

These three amigos have learned well from the real pros at bait and switch in Washington, D.C.

We can only hope that the voting citizenry will remember this next Election Day.
